Consumer awareness campaign held
BOMDILA, Dec 19: In the wake of grievances of consumers ever day life, the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer affairs organized awareness campaign and exhibition at Nafra on Dec 17 and Bhalukpong on Dec 12 last.
Suraj Gurung, EAC Nafra said that quality should never be compromised and consumer should not be allured by the sweet words of sellers. He told the people that this kind of campaign is of great value where the mass is ignorant while eulogizing the task of the department.
On the occasion, ZPM Miali Sangchoju also advocated the exhibition and said it will enhance the ignorant people to know about their rights to protect themselves from being cheated.
Addressing the public, D Ghos, Assistant Controller besides highlighting the aims and objectives of the exhibition he made the people well acquainted with important acts like Consumer Protection Act 1986 and other acts too.
Legal Metrology Inspector, Tasso Gurro displaying charts, pictures and necessary products with the help of volunteer students explained about types of commodities, brands, durability, quality standardization of products, methods of testing goods purity engulfing all sorts of essential products of everyday life and needs.
Huge number of public, shopkeepers, traders Gaon buras, Panchayat leaders and students attended the exhibition with great enthusiasm.
While gracing the occasion, Rijjum Rakshap, EAC overwhelmed with the huge participation of public and students expressed his gratitude to the department at Bhalukpong. He urged the people to ensure that they are not being cheated and if be need, one can lodge a complaint in his office against any shopkeeper or trader instead of going to headquarter where the concern office is located.

Voluntary blood donation camp
ITANAGAR, Dec 19: Thirteen units of blood were collected during a voluntary blood donation camp organized at HDFC bank in collaboration with General Hospital, Pasighat in the first week of this.
Dr. N Ninu (DDHS, T&R) Pasighat and Dr. G Jonkey, blood bank officer and Dr. K Jerang, Pathologist explained in details about the importance of voluntary blood donation.
Dr. Kabang Lego Jt. DHS (T&R) Pasighat exhorted everyone to come forward and donate blood and help save lives. He also highlighted on HIV/AIDS, their routes of transmission and preventives measures.

DC inspects 20 KW SPV Anelih power plant
ANINI, Dec 19: Dibang Valley district Deputy Commissioner Tamune Miso along with DPO and PO APEDA inspected a project “Installation of 20 KW SPV power plant at Anelih”. The Project is being executed by PO APEDA and nearing completion. It will be commissioned shortly after the expert visit from Guwahati. The credit goes to the local people who help a lot in transportation of the equipments and machineries from the main road to Anelih Village. The Deputy Commissioner lauded the contribution of the PO APEDA and DPO, particularly the people of Anelih in making the project successful. The project is being executed in one of the remotest village in Dibang Valley and was without electricity supply even in this modern time. No motorable road is connected with the village and all work was done by headload. It has to pass through a stiff mountain where some people hardly have courage to cross even without carrying any load.
The idea of providing electricity to Anelih people was conceived by Minister UD, Houshing and Town Planning, Rajesh Tacho during the year 2009. It was initially planned for C/o Mini Hydel Project and the work was assigned to DHPD but unfortunately they could not carry out the project due to unavoidable reasons. During 2012 it was handed over to PO APEDA and new idea for Installation of SPV power plant was conceived by the then Deputy Commissioner, Abu Tayeng with the consultation of Minister Rajesh Tacho and PO APEDA. The present DPO plays a vital role for successful installation of the SPV power plant by helping the PO APEDA in various fields. DIPRO
3 houses damaged by strong wind
TAWANG, Dec 19: A strong wind played havoc in the sleepy district of Tawang on Dec 15. According to a report, the dwelling houses of three monks were the most affected – a house was completely flattened and two partially destructed at the 400 year old Tawang monastery. The damaged dwelling house belongs to Lama Thupten Thapkey whereas the other two houses belong to Lama Nawang Gyetsen and Lama Tashi Dorjee.
"The wind completely blew off the roof of the house in between 9 to be 11 pm and later demolished it,” said Lama Thupten Thapkey. The house was renovated barely a month ago.
The District Disaster management officer Tsering Ngudup surveyed the damaged houses and assured necessary assistance at the earliest.

DDSE conducts surprise inspection to schools, habitual absentee teachers warned of action
AALO, Dec 19: In its continued inspection to schools of West Siang, the DDSE Tomi Doke along with a team of BEOs from Headquarter few days back have found that three teachers from Kamki Primary, three from Ruyi and three from Kato Primary schools are absenting themselves regularly from duties of teaching. The complete dereliction of duties by these six teachers on the day of visit and fact gathered from informers from various sources cannot be tolerated for playing with the young minds that solely depend on them for wisdom and learning. The irregular teachers have been issued first and last warning to mend their ways as teachers and intimated about stringent action like service break in case of regular teachers and forceful termination of SSA teachers without any further notice.
Going by the inspection reports of DDSE, any sensible and right thinking people are bound to rebel against such erring teachers who have been handled the mantle teaching and learning to village students. Fire devours 7 houses, renders 100 homeless
PASIGHAT, Dec 19: Seven houses have been burnt down to ashes by a devastating fire in Banskota area, opposite Pasighat Vijaya Bank last night leaving about 100 people homeless.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out at around 2:45 am at Agam Hotel (Restaurant)
and quickly engulfed the adjoining houses. There is no report of death or life-
Early this morning, the Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava after taking stock of the situation directed the administrative officers and disaster management department to assess the fire damage.
The victims reportedly claimed that properties worth one crore has been lost in the devastating fire. The PMC Chief Councilor Denong Tamuk along with his colleague councilors immediately rushed to the spot and conducted rescue operation.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Bosiram Siram visited the spot this morning and expressed his grief and sorrow. He handed over three thousand cash to each family from the DC’s disaster management fund as immediate relief. In addition to that the minister also sanctioned some amount on the spot from his own discretionary fund and provided CGI sheets to the victim families. The minister asked the visiting SDO T. Pada and Field Officer (DDM) O. Apum to assess the extent of loss and forward it to the government for compensation as admissible and permissible.

ITANAGAR, Dec 19: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today reviewed the security situation in view of the forthcoming festival season and New Year with the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home) and Director General of Police at his office today.
While reviewing measures to strengthen the law and order arrangement it was decided that five sanctioned PCR Vans would be deployed in twin city of Itanagar and Naharlagun round the clock and will be available on call. The PCR will start functioning as soon as the vehicles are received.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had also been requested to provide one CRPF Battalion at the earliest for maintenance of law and order in the capital. Till the arrangement of accommodation for the Battalion at Itanagar, it has been decided to send 2 Coys to Seppa, one Coy to Tezu and one Coy to Daporijo from this strength after its arrival. 2 Coys would be stationed at Itanagar.
The Chief Minister directed that strict action should be taken against any extortion threats which are made by the UG groups, criminals or other miscreants. He also appealed to the public to immediately report any such calls to the Police and share any information available about such criminal activity and the criminal elements involved, according to an official release.
‘Meyor community leaders receiving death threats’

HAWAI, Dec 19: Several representatives of the Meyor community who had assumed leadership role for their protest on conversion of community land into ‘forest land’ are said to be receiving death threats, arbitrary detention and harassment.
A report carried out by the Hongkong based Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has alleged of violent attack, arbitrary detention, death threats to activists of Meyor Community, Arunachal Pradesh.
The findings by AHRC has revealed that members of Meyor community are being criticized for protesting the conversion of the community forest land of Walong and Kibitho area into reserved forest land as it was allegedly carried out without the free, prior and informed consent of the Meyor community.
The conversion of community land into forest land was initiated allegedly by collecting
signatures from the Meyor community under the pretext of development works in the
area. Conversion of this forest area was completed in 1995-
AHRC has made wide appeal for ensuring physical and psychological security to the members of the Meyor Community and for protection of indigenous people’s right to land and resources.
It also made appeal to UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous People and the UN Special Rapporteur on Protection of Human Rights Defenders for immediate intervention in this matter.
The Meyor community with about 450 members is one of the smallest indigenous groups in Arunachal Pradesh who are mostly confined to the Anjaw district. The villages of the Meyor community are within a 36 square kilometer perimeter and their livelihood is dependent on natural resources. Over a period of time they faced limited access to the land resources due to the conversion of community land into ‘forest land’.

School principal dies in road accident
ITANAGAR, Dec 19: Tomar Ete, Principal of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Kimin died in a road accident at Lichi village today morning. The accident occurred while he was returning back from Koloriang at around 2 am today, informed Kimin Extra Assistant Commissioner Sibo Passing.
Ete was 56 and is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
Before his mortal remains was being taken to his native village Gune Bane, Aalo West Siang district, the teaching staff, students, School Management Committee (SMC) members, HoDs of Kimin, Panchayat leaders and many relatives of Ete gathered at his official residence at Kimin and paid their last respect to the departed soul. The SMC has declared two days mourning in respect of the late Ete.
Meanwhile, Kimin ZPM Tai Tayu, on behalf of people of Kimin conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. Expressing shock and grief over tragic demise of Ete, Kimin Anchal Chairperson cum SMC Chairperson Takio Yanu, in her condolence message to wife of late Ete said, “Ete was a very sincere and duty bound Principal. His death is an irreparable loss not only his family but also entire state.”

Workshop on sustainable drinking water supply & sanitation
ITANAGAR, Dec 19: A one day workshop and training on “Sustainable drinking water supply and sanitation cum training on FTK handling under Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA) for Balijan CD block was conducted by PHE & WS division, Yupia at Balijan today.
Addressing the gathering of more than 100 participants comprising members from PRIs,
village water and sanitation committee (VWSC), ASHA workers, school teachers and
general public, Nabam Taga, AE, PHE &WS SD Karsingsa, elaborated the aim and objectives
of the workshop and the NBA and construction of Individual Household Latrines (IHHL)

Dr Taw Kaku, MO, CHC Balijan spoke on various water borne diseases and the need to maintain personal hygiene. He exhorted the gathering to ensure consumption of boiled water to minimise the risk of water borne diseases.
District consultant Liyum Basar, through a power point presentation on the topic ‘general information regarding village water and sanitation and water quality,’ explained the role of VWSC members and various types of water contamination.
Balijan EAC Mindo Loyi told the gathering to make best use of the workshop and training programmes like the one being conducted. He said that deforestation was one of the greatest threats to sustainable water supply and that the need of the hour was to conserve the natural habitation.

Anon Wangsu, District Consultant (San) also spoke on role of women and NGO in management of drinking water supply and sustaining rural sanitation.
Taking part in workshop, Roing Anchal Chairperson Raja Linggi assured that every possible effort would be put forwarded for improvement and management of rural drinking water and sanitation to achieve the objective of the two flagship programmes.
Lower Dibang Valley Zila Chairperson Sipi Linggi said that water is life and sanitation should be adopted as way of our life.
Earlier, she released a booklet titled “Wash” published by the PHE &WS Division, Roing. The booklet contains brief note on NRDWP and NBA and their achievement in Lower Dibang Valley District, linkages between water, sanitation and health.
The book mainly focuses on IEC activities of these two flagship programmes.

The workshop was attended by Miti libang, ZPM Meka block, S. Miuli, ZPM Iduli block, R. Linggi, ASC Roing, R Mickhrow, ASC Iduli and M. Linggi, ASC, Koronu block.
More than 200 PRI leaders, VWSC members, teachers and participants from other departments attended the workshop.
In the second part of the day, training on handling of FTK and T & P items of drinking water supply, planning, monitoring and management was imparted to PRI leaders and grassroots level workers of Roing panchayat block by PP Singh, JE and Projonto Perme, Laboratory Assistant.
The training was headed by O.Yirang ASW, Roing Division. Later, sets of FTKs were distributed to VWSC of every panchayat.
AOL leads thousands to pledge for girl child
ITANAGAR, Dec 19: As part of a joint campaign between the Art of Living and UNICEF, thousands of students across Arunachal Pradesh have been sensitized on the issue of the protection of the girl child. As part of the campaign, a pledge to protect the girl child against discrimination and abuse is administered. The campaign is focused on eliminating discrimination relating to five areas – abuse, child marriage, education, foeticide and nutrition.
As part of the campaign, 500 students and parents of Sri Sri Vidya Mandir Pasighat took the pledge on December 18. The programme was led by principal of the school Shyamu Aryal and Art of Living faculty Laishram Dixon.
Swami Alexander from The Netherlands, who is a faculty of the Art of Living also addressed the gathering. He emphasized the need of rekindling and strengthening human values and a sense of harmony in diversity in today’s rapidly changing society in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Even in today’s world we see that, especially in certain parts of the country, the ratio of boys and girls is not equal. Even women often hope for a male child. This is still the case, even though we have seen time and again that women are equally capable of taking up various responsibilities. We see girls topping exams and coming first in other fields as well, and even our current Deputy Commissioner of East Siang district is a lady,” Ponung Ering Angu said Deputy director ICDS Ponung Ering Angu said.
The Art of Living has so far conducted similar pledges in Itanagar, Aalo, Basar, Khonsa, etc. In Itanagar over 3500 students of VKV Chimpu, VKV Vivek Vihar, Vivekananda Central School, Govt Higher Secondary School, Ganga, Arunadaya and Govt Middle School Niti Vihar have taken the pledge so far.
The campaign will continue till the end of the year.
Explaining the rationale behind the campaign, Mitra of the Art of Living says, “The power of a pledge can never be underestimated. Nations have transformed and revolutions have happened and often, it all began with a pledge. When millions of pledges convert into a lifetime of actions and attitudes, the life of girl children all over India will begin to change. Forever.”

Criminals should be strongly dealt with
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I on behalf of the student community would like to share my view about the increasing number of crimes in our state Arunachal Pradesh.
We all know that once our state was known as one of the most peace loving and calm
states of the north-
Also there have been numerous demands, prayers and threats from different organizations
and unions for appointing new and independent HOME MINISTER, but our Chief Minister
still feels that it is unnecessary and is sleeping without any worry as they are
guarded by 100-
We can take as examples, the recent incident of physical assault on Dr. Aruna Gyati Lod, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Dera Natung Govt College Itanagar by a student of her own college and the shameful rape case of Yachuli. Condemnations have come from all sections of life but question is, "will these same people help authorities or the victim to get justice when they are asked for?" Today the culprit has again challenged the government for their miserable inability to maintain law and order. My example was just to show that the criminals are doing crimes day by day openly and are roaming freely without getting punished. This has turned our crime free state to crime hub. Lastly here is my question, who is responsible for this increase of crimes in our state? Is it we denizens or the state government?
So, I would like to request our state government to please implement proper law and order in the state so that we can eat, walk and sleep peacefully. Immediately arrest the culprits and give exemplary punishment. Our state will be known as crime Pradesh in next five years not with the name of Arunachal Pradesh. Save Arunachal Pradesh for the betterment of people of our state not for mushrooming criminals.

What is the role of govt. officers?
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed column, I would like to share some concern about the condition of all the administrators and head of the department. The officers who have been vested with great authority and power for the betterment and development of the society as a particular and state as a whole are being reduced to puppet at the hand of the politicians. Officers are paralyzed and their hands are tied tightly by the so called politicians. They are bound to keep their mouth shut as there is popular saying by the politicians "Juban Ko Lagam do" to the bureaucrats. This is a great worry for the societies because it may devour the development of society and state as a whole.
The question which arises here is that, are the position and power of officers vested by law so weak, that they cannot execute or deliver their duties and responsibilities without the influence of politicians on them. What is the term and conditions put forth by the politicians to the officers that they are forced to become puppets inspite of such dignified position in the society. Or are they being threatened by the politicians of handing transfer order to the remotest areas? Last but not the least questions to the bureaucrats of state is that are you really complacent with your powers and positions which is being influenced by the politicians?
I went through this condition of bureaucrats after meeting many HODs for discussing about the developmental work. I was taken aback after knowing that the officers even breathe according to the instructions and wishes of the politicians.
They have no choice of their own. They cannot use their powers legally vested by the law. Every step is taken according to the Minister, 'bas ek ishara kar do aur banda hazir'. This is a sign of tarnishing image of the officers. The dignity or worthiness of the officers with regard to powers and position are being sold to the politicians. Officers are being looked down by the politician's. This is a moral retardation for the officers.
If this is the condition, why to vest power and authority to the officers which are made functionless by the politicians. Why to recruit the most eligible candidate among so many competitors to the power, let the politicians who have not done even the matriculation manage the bureaucracy.
This is kind appeal to all the bureaucrats of our state let your good conscience rule over the society without the bad influence of the politicians and avail your powers and positions vested to you by the law for the betterment and development of the society.

Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to highlight regarding recently advertised post of Research Officer. As being one of the aspirants, it is very disheartening and unfortunate for us to see the given syllabus of Economic subject. Because, rather than preparing a standardized syllabus for the said post as like other competitive exam they took the easiest step for conducting this exam by providing us the completely copy paste syllabus of M.A Economics of Rajiv Gandhi University.
The authorities has not even bother to check whether the given syllabus is authentic
or not, whereas some topic/paper included in the given syllabus( i.e. from page no.
17 to 21) has not been taught by economic department of our university till today.
Moreover, there is no instruction or terms and condition given in the syllabus but
